The 50/50 dating app: one woman admitted for every man.
One to One isn't just our name. It's our admissions rule. Here is how an even membership works, why it means a waitlist, and what it does and doesn't promise.
Why most dating apps feel lopsided
Every other dating app admits everyone who shows up. That's why the rooms are uneven: one side sends hundreds of messages into silence, the other side drowns in them, and nobody has a good time.
An uneven room changes how everyone behaves. When attention is scarce on one side, people send more messages with less thought. When it's overwhelming on the other, people stop reading. Neither side is doing anything wrong. The room is simply built badly.
We admit in pairs
For every man who joins One to One, a woman joins with him. The membership is held at 50/50 in every city we open, at every moment. When one side gets ahead, that side waits, no matter how much we'd like the growth.
It means we grow slower than anyone else. It also means that when you're inside, the room is even.
An even room. That's the whole product.
Held city by city, not averaged across the country
A national average would be easy to hit and useless to you. A balance that only exists on paper across the whole country does nothing for the room around you.
So we hold the ratio within each city. The balance you're promised is the balance around you. A city opens as soon as there are enough members on both sides for it to work there, and not before.
Why the ratio means a waitlist
If we admitted everyone who applied, we'd be lopsided within a week, like every other app. You wait until there's someone on the other side to admit alongside you.
Your place depends on the ratio in your city, not on how fast you signed up. We'll tell you honestly where you stand rather than leaving you guessing. See how admission works, step by step.
What the ratio promises, and what it doesn't
The ratio is an admissions rule, and it's one we can keep forever: we admit one woman for every man.
- It does mean the membership in your city is even.
- It does mean that when one side gets ahead, that side waits, rather than the room tipping.
- It doesn't mean exactly as many men and women are online on any given night. Nobody can promise that, so we don't.
It also works because members are actually present. Profiles that go quiet leave circulation, so the balance is made of real, active people. More on that in our community standards.
Who the ratio is for
At launch, One to One admits men and women looking to meet each other. That's what one woman for every man describes, and we'd rather say it plainly than leave it unsaid.
Anyone over 18 who can verify their identity and agrees to our standards can join the waitlist. Every member is approved by a person and verified with government ID and a live selfie before anyone can see them.
Some people just align.
An even membership, everyone approved, everyone verified. Join the waitlist and we'll write the moment a place opens in your city.
