Delete your One to One account

You can delete your account in the app, and it happens straight away. If you'd rather not use the app, or can't, you can ask us by email. This page explains both, and what we delete and what we keep.

Delete it in the app

  1. Open the delete screen. If you're a member, go to Settings, then Account, and tap Delete account. If you haven't joined yet, or your account is suspended or banned, tap Delete my account on the status screen the app opens to.
  2. Type DELETE to confirm.
  3. Tap Delete my account.

Your account is deleted straight away, and it can't be undone. You're signed out, and we email you to confirm.

Ask by email, without the app

If you'd rather not use the app, or can't, email hello@onetooneapp.com from the email address you signed up with, with the subject Delete my account.

We log your request and delete your account within 45 days of receiving it. When it's done, we send you the same confirmation email the app sends.

What we delete

When your account is deleted:

  • Your profile, photos and prompts are deleted for everyone.
  • Your alignments end, and the people you're aligned with see that you've left.
  • Your sign-in, and everything else we hold that's linked to your account, is deleted, apart from what's listed under What we keep.
  • The tokens that let us send notifications to your devices are deleted.
  • If you're on our mailing list, we remove you from it.

If any part of the deletion can't finish straight away, we retry it every hour until it's done.

What we keep, and for how long

We keep only what the law or a safety case requires. Some of it is a fingerprint of your email address: a keyed hash that lets us recognize the address if it's used again, without keeping the address itself.

  • Your conversations, for 30 days. The people you've talked with can still read your conversation with them, read-only and marked "Member left", and can report it in that time. After 30 days the conversation is deleted.
  • Open reports, until they're resolved. If a report you made, or a report about you, is still open, we keep it (the reason and the details) and the copy of the conversation attached to it until it's resolved. Then we erase its details.
  • Anything under a legal hold, until the hold ends. If the law or a safety case requires us to preserve an account, we keep what the hold covers, which can include the account, the application, the profile, photos, prompts, messages, reports and the email address, hidden from everyone except our staff. When the hold ends, we delete it as we would any other account.
  • A fingerprint of your email address, while a legal hold or an open report about you lasts. If you apply again from that address in that time, your application isn't declined automatically: a person decides. From a report, a moderator can also block the address from joining again; then we keep the fingerprint as long as the block stands, and a new application from that address is declined automatically. Otherwise we delete the fingerprint when the hold or report ends.
  • A fingerprint of your email address on the record of your deletion, for 30 days. If your conversation is reported in that time, a moderator can use it to block the address from joining again.
  • If you were banned, for as long as the ban stands: a fingerprint of your email address, and the reference our verification partner gave us. A new application from that address is declined automatically.
  • Records of our staff's work, which name your account only by its random ID: moderation actions (the kind of action, the reason and the dates; notes are erased), our admin audit log, safety flags our moderators place on an account (including records of flags made in error), and takedown requests other people made (with the link to the content removed).
  • The record of your deletion, and any requests you made for your data, for 24 months, as California's rules on keeping records of privacy requests require. The fingerprint of your email address on the deletion record is cleared after 30 days, and once your account is gone, a closed data request keeps only a fingerprint of your email address.
  • Our copy of your confirmation email, for 7 days. We delete it 7 days after it's sent.
  • Backups. Your information can stay in our database backups until they roll over, within our database provider's backup window.
